Native American Registrations

Tax Exemption Requirements for Native American registering WITH the State of Minnesota

• ID showing Native American
• Must live on reservation
• Must be delivered to the reservation
• Letter from Chief

Tribal Registration INSTEAD of registering with the State of Minnesota

• Use Native American Buyer - Tribal Registration checklist
• Buyer must state MN Native American Reservation they are registering with
• 31-day Out of State permit in MNDrive is used, checking box for MN Native American Reservation & choosing the reservation name
• State must be notified in MNDrive the vehicle is being registered with a Tribe.  This is done by searching the title number/VIN and choosing registering out of state.  The name of Native American Reservation will be needed for this.
