Wheelage does apply to motorhomes.
If there is a dealer involved, the title fee is a flat $8.25 as of Jan. 1, 2017.
- Sales tax rate for recreational vehicles is 6.875%. Buyer’s premium must be included in the sales tax.
- Tabs vary depending on the weight and year of the recreational trailer.

Recreational vehicle plates cost $13.50
If there is a lien card, the lien card must be with the title in order to sell the vehicle. The lien holder will be listed on the top left-hand side of the title.
If ownership is being transferred with MCO's:
RV's have 2 MCO's. One for the chassis (cut away) and one for the build up (2nd stage). The shipping weight will help determine which MCO is for the chassis or build up. Note - years on the MCO's can differ.
- When titling the RV, the MCO for the build up/2nd Stage is used for the year of the RV.
- VIN#'s should match on all paperwork
By Statute, “Recreational Vehicle” means travel trailers including those that telescope or fold down, chassis-mounted campers, motor homes, tent trailers, and converted buses that provide temporary human living quarters.
A recreational vehicle is one that:
- Is not used as the residence of the owner or occupant;
- Is used while engaged in recreational or vacation activities; and
- Is either self-propelled or towed on the highways incidental to the recreational or vacation activities.
All recreational trailers and vehicles, regardless of weight, must be titled.
- RV plates are issued for self-propelled vehicles (motor homes, RV’s)
- RL plates are issued for trailers
